Search for penalty notices

You can search the PRS exemptions register for penalty notices that have been issued to landlords.

The register may show the reason for the penalty and the value. The name of the landlord can only be shown if the landlord is an organisation.

What is a penalty notice?

Local authorities check that landlords have complied with the regulations about the minimum level of energy efficiency. They may issue a penalty notice if they have not.

A landlord may get a penalty notice if they continue to rent out a property with an EPC rating below the minimum standard, or if they enter misleading information on the exemptions register. You can find more information about penalty notices here (opens in a new window)

Other ways to search for penalties

You can combine search criteria for a more detailed search. If you enter more than one, then only penalties that match all of the criteria that you entered will be found.

You can only search by name for a landlord that is an organisation
